Wing Tsun
Wing Tsun is a style of
Kung Fu created in China some 300 years ago by Ng Mui, a Buddhist nun from the Shaolin Monastery. It was named after her first student, a woman by the name of Yim Wing Tsun and made famous by Bruce Lee who learned the art from Yip Man.
Wing Tsun is a martial art that emphasises quick and effective self defence using close range techniques. Rather than relying on acrobatic movements or brute strength, Wing Tsun is based upon good biomechanics which means it can be practiced safely by just about anyone and promotes health instead of wear and tear on the body.
Beginning students start to learn the basic Wing Tsun form which contains the core movements of the system. Students are also introduced to various principles upon which the art is build upon. The core movements and principles are combined to form techniques used for self defence. Using special drills, the techniques are trained so that they become automatic.
